Canfield is a suburban city located in Mahoning County, Ohio at the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and State Route 46/U.S. Route 62, about ten miles southwest of Youngstown. The population is approximately 8,000. Canfield is a vibrant community with a highly regarded school district, a well-respected and professional safety service department, and a reputation for excellence.

The City Manager shall provide professional leadership in the management of the city and is responsible for the coordination of all municipal programs and the executive supervision of all city departments and agencies. The City Manager’s principle duties and responsibilities include assisting members of the City Council in formulating policies and responding to City Council issues and concerns, either directly or through various city staff members, to recommend options and potential solutions. The City Manager will oversee a staff of 50-60 full and part-time employees which include: Human Resources, Finance, Police, Water, Sewer, Storm Water, Public Works, Parks, Recreation, Cemeteries, Planning, Zoning, Property Maintenance, Engineering, and Economic Development.

The City Manager is appointed by and serves at the will of the City Council. The City Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective implementation of City Council policies and serves as the Chief Administrative and Executive Officer of the City. The City Manager coordinates the official business of the City Council, provides leadership and direction to the entire organization, responds to requests for information and assistance, and serves as a liaison between City Staff and City Council.

Candidates shall have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, accounting, engineering, business, or another related field from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of progressively responsible management and leadership experience in a municipal government administration, preferably in the State of Ohio. A master’s degree in public administration or related field, and/or certification as a professional engineer in Ohio is preferred.
